Easter Twenty-Ten Holy Week

It was a wonderful Easter. The Lord gave me the blessing of singing a song for the congregation, and we were able to just spend the day with our boys. It has been very fun having Logan's first holidays this year. Luk is teaching Logan all that he needs to know, and will probably do the same thing next year.

Our lovely pastor's wife posted about their family "Holy Week," and I decided to do one of the activities that she mentioned in her blog. We created our own tomb for the Resurrection of Christ. Gregory was in town, so he got in on the fun. Neither one of them liked making the play dough. They don't like sticky fingers!

 Then it was time to bake the play dough for the boys to paint...

Sunday was a beautiful day, which ended with Luk giving us a sermon of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. He has become quite the preacher.  The funny thing was that Luk did not use this tomb to tell his story. He decided to use a used Orange Crush bottle and a Mechanical Pencil to represent the tomb and Christ. I know that God has something really special for Luk's talent and need to "teach" people what he knows. It is really a beautiful thing. It has really put me homeschooling him into perspective because what I teach him, he wants to tell everyone his new found knowledge.

We are truly blessed.

FPEA Convention & Seminar Suggestions

I am excited! The Homeschool Convention is coming up soon here in Florida. I don't know what other conventions look like, but this is like a Mega Superstore of Curriculum. My first year going was last year (which was ridiculously overwhelming). I went with a group of other moms that were planning to homeschool, but no husband. This year, we are making it a family treat. We are going together with the boys. After checking today, the seminar listing is up and the Exhibitors are now posted.

Garden needs Tending

Luk has had a wonderful time growing his garden. He recently went back to his garden to get his vegetables. He grew salad leaves (I am drawing a blank on its' name. I know it was not Romaine.), and he brought them home. He also brought his more Collard Green home. We will be cooking them. Luk is not too happy about this, but we told him he picked that veggie, he has to try it.

The growing of the garden has been a wonderful experience for Luk. Recently, we were watching WALLE, as an afternoon treat. He was very interested in learning about how the people got bigger, why they needed the masks, the plant, and why the plant was needed to grow. So... WALLE became a learning day about outer space, oxygen, plant life, etc. It was a fun time.

Painting & Letters

Luk surprises me. There are days that feel like nothing got through to him, and then he does things like the other day to prove that he was absorbing the information I was giving him. We have been working on letters, and I knew/know that he was getting them. However how much of it I just wasn't sure. He recognized them for a while, but for him to see a couple of toys and make the letters was something new. This is what he had to show me after I made him breakfast...

"Look Mom, the letter 'D'."

"And this is the letter 'T'."

"J."

"And, 'Y'!"

The toys were connection pieces to a set that he got for Christmas. I guess that after much play time with the pieces, he saw the letters. 

I was proud! I was just so happy that he realized that he could make letters outside of writing them. It is great to see his imagination come to live with something as small as this. Logan enjoyed playing on his mats as Luk imagined! 

Later that day, we finally opened some Sidewalk Paint that we had bought some time ago Luk was quite the artist, and Logan just wanted to grab ahold of my camera!

The Gardens Must be Pruned...

The garden continues to grow, and with that comes Luk being a farmer. Here he is cutting the leaves from his vegetables. He is really learning the importance of how people grow food, eat it, and survive off the land. In the fall, he will be learning more about how the sun, rain, and oxygen help with the growth of plants.

Luk had a great time at Busch Gardens. This is his frist theme park Roller Coaster. We had a blast!

Field Trip to Busch Gardens

We have visitors this week. My brother, wife, and son are down for Spring Break. We decided to take the boys to Busch Gardens, and it was wonderful because they opened a new Sesame Street Safari Fun area in the park. It is a large area, and you could spend the entire day there. We have a year pass, and we are planning on going again.

The boys were even more excited about meeting the Sesame Street Characters. They spent a nice amount of time with each set of children.

It was with Elmo and Big Bird that the boys spent a good deal of time. They offered the boys as many hugs as they wanted. It was really sweet. If there is one thing FL theme parks are good at it is the people they hire to do the characters. It may be good that you can't see their faces, but you almost wonder if they can't help but smile when they see each child light up (even if they are having a bad day).
