I'm sitting back listening to my son picking up his mess from a game (with Dad) of "real life" Angry Birds that just took place in the hallway. I ask him to bring out his drawings from his Bible time to show daddy. Today was a great day to see how Luk would like our Workbox System. It really works out best for us. Luk is a boy that likes to see his progress, and he was excited to see his boxes being finished. The original place for the boxes were his room, however I can't set the up at night. There is also the fact that we can't do school in his room because Logan went a bit nuts when we tried that. So...
The linen closet has been transformed into a school closest. If you notice there is no "5"... ask Logan. I don't know where it is! So, we just don't have it and we skip it. Luk noticed immediately!
Here is our Kitchen Cabinet Wall:
Before the boxes we do our "Calendar Time" followed by Bible time, which is use reading the book of Judges followed by him drawing a picture of what was read.
Here's "What's in the Box"
Box 1: Phonics
We have been staying on an easier phonics level because Reson and I decided that we wanted Fluency and Comprehension to be apart of him learning to read. The amazing thing about this is that Luk checked out "Silly Sally" from the library and was able to read it. The AR level is 2.6, and we were very proud that accomplishment.
At the moment we are working on rhythm reading since it is clear that he can read higher levels, but with that we can consistency, and so we practice on, working on...
Box 2: Handwriting
After Luk did his Handwriting Without Tears, we did an activity with the white/magnetic board.
Box 3: Science
This is our week of reading the material, which will be followed by a lab.
Box 4: Geography and map learning
Box 5: Math
This was our day. It was followed by Karate that we decided to put Luk in a few months ago, but waited until the school year began. Here he is with some of his church friends.

What's in the Box?
DAY 1
We are using Sue Patrick's Workbox System, loosely, but here is "What's in the Box?" today.
Box 1: Bible- Positive Action
Characteristic Trait- Creativity- coloring a butterfly page and stamp fingerprints
Box 2: Spanish- HOP
Numbers 1-3 page
Hola/Adios page
Box 3: Game
Beginning Sounds Dominoes Game
Box 4: Phonics- ETC
Pre-Test
Box 5: Math- Right Start
Quantities of 1-3 (1-4) blocks and tally sticks, play doh
Box 6: Critical Thinking
Different Shapes page
We started school at 10am, and he finished his work by 11:30. I asked him if he wanted a break for lunch after box 5, but when he realized he only had one left he quickly pressed on to finish. He has a hard working spirit. It was a fun day. Tomorrow brings Science, Handwriting, and Geography!

Redesigned Room
My wonderful husband built the shelves, and I have the boxes in place. Luk helped his daddy build it and one thing is for sure; IKEA is kid friendly. =)
Logan is sleeping through the night with no problems, and we have decided that we could officially move him into Luk's room. The room is now, "The Boys' Room." Logan's room is now ONLY the schoolroom. Here is the final project (that is until we sell the boxes of movies.)
Sweet organization, oh how I love you!

My Workbox System and more...
I have bought the shelving for the workbox system that we will be using to organize Luk's school work. IKEA is my new favorite store. The Expedit unit was on sale of $99 for 16 "cubbies." I will not even begin to tell you how much a storage unit like this cost at school supply stores. I was ecstatic when I saw the price. Here is what it looks like, Luk picked the wood finish "birch effect."
We decided that we would most likely (for now) use the top row for craft display and pictures. Then we bought 6 boxes and 12 filing boxes. The boxes will have the workbooks or text needed during the day (or puzzle and games) while the filing boxes will have the copywork.
Luk picked every color! Why not? It's in a separate room that only we go into. So, it is very colorful! I also bought these round bathroom rugs.
There are times in the school time that Luk doesn't want to sit at the desk. So, we picked these round rugs for him to know that he needs to sit in one of these designated areas.
Tomorrow, we will be building the unit and putting it all together, and I will post a photo. I want to start organizing our school schedule, however we are awaiting our Math, Science, and bible curriculum to come in the mail... waiting...
